In business you never stop learning
I learnt something the other day.
No matter how much you value a long-term relationship, it doesn’t always mean the other side sees it the same way.
I’ve worked with a client for 18 years. That’s longer than anyone currently at their organisation. Over that time we built multiple websites together and worked through all sorts of challenges for their organisation.
They recently decided to build a new site with another agency. And honestly, that part didn’t bother me. What did sting was how I found out.
I came across it while doing a routine check of their site. No conversation, no heads up. Just… there it was.
That’s the part that stuck with me. Not the decision, but the lack of a simple courtesy after all that time. After 18 years, that felt pretty ordinary.
When I eventually spoke to someone about it, I felt brushed off. At one point I was told, “well at other companies where we’ve changed agencies, I haven’t told the old one”.
Maybe that’s normal for some people. To me, it just didn’t sit right.
A quick conversation costs nothing. And after that long, it would have meant a lot.
On the flip side, we’ve got some great projects underway and a few exciting ones coming up. So, onwards we go.
